Towards the end of the product run, Hallmark and Mattel attempted to inject new life into the franchise with the introduction of new character toys from the feature film and television program. At this time they were also promoting the products in other countries and tested sales in these markets with these new toys. These dolls were released so far into the end of the run, that many were never released at all or are extremely rare.

Those released were as follows

Dress-up Dolls: Dress up dolls were dolls who came with removable clothing, and you could purchase other outfits for them to play in.

In 1997 a production company out of New York known as Up up & Away attempted to relaunch Rainbow Brite to the public giving her an updated look and all new "Friends". This new line of toys was to be more ethnic and politically correct.

In 2003 Rainbow Brite was re-released by HotTopic as a 20th Anniversary doll. The doll was replicated nearly exactly like the 1983 Mattel dolls. Only difference was her hair ribbon was pink, and her bangs were rooted in her forehead to replicate the animated character's look.

Soon after a production company called "ToyPlay" bought the license and re-released a new line of dolls much in the style of the Mattel line. They offered 18" dolls, 10" dolls, and even smaller figures with hard plastic bodies.

The release of the figures was also the same as it was by Mattel, in that they released Rainbow Brite, Red Butler, Canary Yellow, and Patty O'Green.
