Starlite (Original)
He is a wonderful flying horse, always at hand to guard Rainbow whenever danger threatens, and he is always ready to offer advice on everything! But sadly, brave though this magnificent horse is, he does have one fault. He is vain and has a very good opinion of himself! This sometimes makes it all to easy for the two villains of Rainbow Land, Murky Dismal and Lurky, to capture him. When this happens, Starlite usually finds that Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids have to rescue him!

Trivia
By Jingo
The character of Starlite was modeled after a real horse.
“I modeled Starlite after my son's horse, an Arabian gelding named By Jingo, and many of By Jingo's qualities are now a part of Starlite's character.”
By Jingo was adopted by Annette Turnbaugh's family where he lived happily until his passing on November 3rd 2002 at the age of 34.[1]
Starlite's Mane Color?
In the animated show the color pattern for Starlite's mane is one direction, red in front and blue at the base of his neck. (Pattern: red, orange, yellow, green, blue. Indigo and violet are left out.)
In the Movie, and in books, the color pattern changes to blue in the front and red in the back. (Pattern: blue, green, yellow, orange, red. Indigo and violet are left out.)
There is no real reason for these two changes. It's not a mistake, due to the fact that it is a consistent change and not something that happened just once.

Starlite is Rainbow Brite's constant companion. He's also, without a doubt, the most magnificent horse in the universe ... and if you don't believe it, just ask him yourself! Of course, he didn't get to be the most magnificent horse in the universe just by answering silly questions. He's got more talents than you can shake a rainbow at ... and luckily for Rainbow Land, one of those just happens to be saving the day!

Rainbow Brite’s talking stallion, mentor, and primary mode of transportation. But save the Mr. Ed comparisons – Starlite is not your average horse. With a mane of many colors and a vocabulary that surpasses the stodgiest of English professors, Starlite is the most magnificent creature in all of Rainbow Land, and never misses an opportunity to remind you of that.
